Key Geographical and Political Features:
Island of Kitra: Home to the headquarters of the Kitran Order of Cantirs. This headquarters, called the Tower of the Winds, was first constructed during the days of the empire. The island is covered in bare rock and heath. Frequent rains provide ample water and fill the island’s holes. The people subsist on the local waterfowl and shellfish in the tidepools.
Grinding Ice: Collection of icebergs through the bay formed between eastern and western Kaianor.
Sea of Serpents: A body of saltwater separating eastern from western Kaianor. The mighty sea serpents migrate through these waterways each year, traveling north in the winter and south for the summer. Many humans, Urreshi, and elves trade on the coastlines containing the Sea of Serpents.
Valmak Mountains: This mountain chain in the northeast of Kaianor is home to the Makao of Valzhad. This settlement is most prone to ally with other races. The Makao of Valzhad are friendly with dark elves of Tsa-Yanarion and once had dealings with Dardan III of Zargon. Frequently cold and rocky, pine trees and evergreens grow sparsely on the mountainsides and are more prevalent in the valleys. Home to bears, wolves, otters, squirrels, raccoons, eagles, and goats.
White River: The White River, home to salmon, stretches from a small spring at the heart of Valzhad to the Jafaran Bay.
Tu Talen: Large hardwood forested area. Old growth forest with twisted brambles and briars and thick vines. Wolves and panthers prowl the forest. Home to some wood elves, though most live in Ealdwode in western Kaianor. Also home to hawks, eagles, and other birds. Squirrels, chipmunks, snakes, and other wildlife thrive here.
Travelers Forest: Forest at center of eastern Kaianor. Mostly coniferous. Humans live in cities at the edges. Informal collection of cities surround the forest consisting of Crossroads, Westport, and Travelers Rest. No capital for this region, as the cities are not part of unified body. They exist separate from Zargon’s royal influence but do receive protection of the Iron Guard from wild elf raiders in exchange for some mineral and agricultural tithes. The cities have open sewers that feed into the rivers, disgusting the elves.
Kaian Plains: Wild panthers and buffalo roam the high grasses. The woods of Travelers Forest grows at the center, a thick pine forest with all manners of bird and small mammal, including raccoons, chipmunks, rabbits, squirrels, and field mice. This land was originally home to a variety of wild elf tribes, now contested by Zargonese expansion.
The human-dominated kingdom of Zargon pushes ever outward into wild elf territory. Buffalo are used for physical labor and are hunted for their meat, putting kingdom citizens in competition with elven tribes. Trade in fish, timber, and some mineral deposits south of Tu Talen. Waste from human cities travels down the White River and can coagulate in Travelers Forest. Most of their worship is directed toward Azura and Orn.
The Iron Guard enforces the current queen’s will. Her name is Selene, and she has been the thirteenth monarch of Zargon since its founding. The first ten kings were all named Dardan. Dardan X’s brother, Tarquin, seized the throne from his brother. Selene later restored the line of her father during the Uprising. It was at this time that Selene gave the Eye of Azura to the mayor of Travelers Rest for safekeeping.
The Grasscutters are the largest of the wild elf tribes. Culture celebrates the buffalo and worships Orn and Azura indirectly. Have terrible relations with the Zargonese, though slightly friendlier toward the people of Travelers Forest. All Grasscutter wild elves share a common family name “Cutter,” followed by their given name. The smallest wild elf tribe, currently allied with Queen Selene, share a family name “Flower,” followed by their given name. Their culture is similar to the Grasscutters, though they are less hostile to humans.
Jafara and Ahkama: Two islands in Jafaran Bay, they have a tropical savanna climate. Home to a variety of fish, lizards, and snakes. The islands have palm trees and rainforests. Some Urreshi but mainly home to humans of Kal-Jafari and Kal-Ahkama, the cities found on the respective islands. The region is controlled by a council of elected pirate lords from both islands. The two islands are in friendly competition for the swordfish, squid, and octopus that fill the bay. Sharks prowl the water which is also home to octopi, coral, and oysters.
Hothiran Bay: The island of Hothir sits in this bay across from the city of Westport. Westport is a free city, not associated with Zargon, Travelers Forest, or Hothir. Home to humans, Urreshi are banned from Hothir due to recent wars with Jafaran pirates. In Hothir, there is a reward for cat hides.
Sandy River: The river branches from the White River at Crossroads and is very muddy. Home to small perch and catfish. It flows from Crossroads to Westport.
Dragonsteeth Mountains: Short mountain range dividing Kaian Plains from Aqbatana. Home to mountain snakes and vipers as well as panthers. Eagles, falcons, and other birds of prey dwell here. Thick vegetation on the windward side of the mountains, dry and desolate on the leeward side. Also home to Makao settlement Barzhad. The Makao here are even less friendly to outsiders than most Makao.
Aqbatana: Vast desert with cacti, rattlesnakes, small lizards, and mice. The Urreshi live in Bel-Anu and Bel-Taná. Thick deposits of basalt, marble, and limestone are found below the sand. Twin cities of Bel-Taná and Bel-Anu stand about fifty miles apart. Cities share similar architecture, art, and culture. Populated dominated by Urreshi, though some humans live here as well. This is the Urreshi homeland.
Tsa-Yanarion: Ruled by Lady Yanara since founding during the Fall of Edinniae. Sits within the Crystal Cavern, illuminated by a central crystalline stalactite. City sits around an underground lake filled with crayfish and eyeless fish. Mushrooms grow thick underground, as well as a thin moss that covers the cavern floor. Undersheep dwell here alongside the dark elves and are often herded for their thick wool. Their meat is stringy and rarely consumed. Lady Yanara gave the Eye of Azura to Dardan III in the
11th century.

Kaianor: Western Kaianor and eastern Kaianor are home to the majority of the world’s races, including the Urreshi, Makao, humans, and elves. Forests cover western Kaianor south of the Akantha Mountains, which is home to the Makao of Thorazhad. These Makao are hostile to outsiders, especially humans. The wood elves of Ealdwode control
Lananor: A temperate country filled with rolling hills and grasslands. The Tree of Life grows here. The high elves of Tsa-Valarion live here.
Azmavor: Home of the Ar-Kai, recently conquered by the Drall. Mountains dot the landscape, and trees cover the valleys.
Wyrding Sea: Sea dividing western Kaianor from Lananor. Possibly home to Deep One settlements.
Warding Sea: Sea dividing eastern Kaianor from Azmavor. Possibly home to Deep One settlements.
