Book of Ages

This is the way of things, as taught to the children of Zargon.

In the beginning, all was blue. And the blue was divided, above as below, the Skyking Azura and the Seaqueen Amaya. The Sky strove with the Sea to bring forth Grandmother Sarkan, firstborn of the gods. She was the World-Turtle, the lady of winter.

Next came Vora the Unicorn, the herald of change and lady of spring. Narkin came next, lord of autumn and illusion. Orn the Sunbird came last, the lord of summer, assigned to the sky to bring light to the world.

Before passing into his Eversleep, Great Azura peopled the lands with the mortal and immortal races, birthed from the World-Turtle herself. Narkin Kingdragon summoned dragons and sea serpents from the deep. Wild things, they knew no master. Then Great Azura slept. The First Age passed.

In those days, humans constructed cities in Kaianor. Edinniae surpassed all others in wealth, art, and magic. Under Ayesha Khan, Edinniae flourished, and her influence spread to the edges of Tu Talen and to the foothills of the great mountains.

The wood-elves, leaving their home in Lananor, came to Kaianor and settled in Ealdwode. They soon grew jealous of the humans’ power and made war upon Edinniae.

In her wrath, Ayesha prayed to Xallax, lord of the void, calling him from Outside to take vengeance upon the elves. But Xallax knew what he was about. He gave Edinniae to his Drall for conquest.

While the other gods were hesitant to intervene, Grandmother Sarkan rose against Xallax, and in return, the centipede god cracked her shell. Quakes shook the ground, and Edinniae crashed into the sea.

Then Orn Sunbird challenged Xallax, and the noise of battle woke Great Azura. He separated day from night and brought peace to Sarkan before returning to his endless dream. Azura hurled Xallax hurled back into the void between the stars, and Orn returned to his home in the sky. Grandmother Sarkan survived, but her shell was broken. The Unicorn no longer trod her fields and forests. The Drall overran Azmavor. Lananor faded over the sea. The Second Age passed, and the Third Age began.[1]

[1] These words first gathered over 500 years ago in the Kingdom of Zargon. The bigotry makes it obvious. Elves growing jealous of humanity’s power, indeed. We know from our own records that Edinniae expanded on the elves’ borders, and that was the initial cause of their war with the elves. It was their own sin that brought Xallax down upon us. -Gr.
